Casshern

Casshern

Starring: Yusuke Iseye, Kumiko Aso, Akira Terao, Kanako Higuchi, Fumiyo Kohinata

Director: Yuji Hayashida

Studio: Momentum pictures

Year: 2004

The film is set in 21. century. Europa and the Eastern federation has been in war for 50 years and the latter is victorious. But there is no peace. The world is nearly ruined by chemical, bio and nuclear weapons. The human race is exhausted by warfare.
Hop lies in geneticist Dr. Azuma and his neo-cell treatment that can rejuvenate the body. But, of course, his experiment goes wrong and a race of mutant androids are on the run. Azumas son dies, but is reincarnated as the legendary hero Casshern to put a stopper to the deadly androids and their super robots.

There is a lot of quasi science and philosophy talk going on, especially at the end of the film(big time Manga style), but the action is great! The special effects are wonderful, I love the march of the super robots. Terminator can take a hike.
The film is based on the manga from 1973 by the same name, and was a candidate for Worst japanese film in 2004. See for yourself, absolute crap or top action?

Rate: 9/10
